Adult Swim's Leading New Show of This Year Earns a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
