People have gathered around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the war in Gaza.

The attack led to in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel responded by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our violent enemies have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the aims of the war: the return of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again present a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state commemorations until 16 October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still occurred across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the terms of the agreement.

A senior representative familiar with the talks said that an night meeting of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The representative said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, amid differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the discussions are "difficult and have still not deliver any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are working hard to close the gaps between the two sides.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance distribution
  • Post-war governance of the territory

Public Feeling

In the city's memorial area that day, young Hagar - whose sibling endured the attack on the outdoor event, where 378 people were lost their lives and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "Nowhere seems like home any longer and until each abducted person are released none of us will be secure."

"Once we see all home again, we can relax once more. Then we can commence recover," she continued.

Near the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to demonstrate their backing for the families of the abducted. Israel says nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Activist one woman remarked: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the abducted to come back home. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be protected."

Research now frequently demonstrate that about 70% of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to end in as payment for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the music event, those paying respects came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the noise of aerial bombardments and shelling could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people reported the intense Israeli bombardment persisted.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and zone districts and in the east side district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"Once the dusk arrives, the dread comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my smallest child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the reports to see the situation. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Health Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area reported it had received the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including several who died in an Israeli strike in the southern district.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said two more dead people had been brought there. One of them was lost his life by Israeli forces while attempting to get aid to the south, medics reported.

The territory's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
