The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
