The Denver Nuggets star won the NBA's Most Valuable Player honor in three of the past four years.

Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center was hurt late in the first half in an inadvertent collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.

Jones landed on the footwear of the MVP, who immediately collapsed to the floor holding his leg.

The 30-year-old, who is leading the NBA this season in rebounds and dimes, posted 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to suffering the problem.

Jokic will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the injury.

"Immediately, Jokic knew he was hurt," stated Denver head coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who is injured, it's difficult, especially a player as special as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I'm focused about him as a person and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
